Deborah Moore Van Ness was born &
raised in Connecticut and began making pottery at the University of Hartford,
Hartford Art School. In 1992 she graduated with a BFA in ceramics and a minor
in philosophy. Following college she spent a year at the Appalachian Center
for Crafts in Tennessee, then held residencies at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia
and most recently at the Vermont Clay Studio.
In 1997 Deborah moved into the 1850's era farm house she now shares with her children Anna & Colin on several acres in the wooded beauty of Central Vermont. With the meandering 'Flint Brook' traversing their property, Flint Brook pottery was born. The natural elements of the surrounding countryside serve as Deborah's artistic and spiritual inspiration.
